Gugamal National Park (Melghat Tiger Reserve), Maharashtra

Gugamal National Park is one of the major national parks of India located in Amravati district of Maharashtra state. The park is a part of the Melghat Tiger Reserve which was declared a tiger reserve in 1973–74 under Project Tiger. The total area of the park is approximately 361.28 Km. As a part of Melghat Tiger Reserve; Gugamal National Park attracts a large number of tourists. This is the only park in Maharashtra where tigers are still present. Gugamal National Park is situated within the Satpura mountain range which is also known as Gavilgarh Hills. The park is one of the most popular wildlife sanctuaries to visit in Maharashtra, hosting thousands of tourists every year. Gugamal national park is a landmark for tiger as the taj mahal for Indo-Islamic architecture and design. You can explore it immediate after the national park through agra same day tour or you can organize your visit yourself but need to consider every Friday is Taj Mahal off day.

Biodyversity of Gugamal National Park

Flora
The Gugamal National Park, surrounded by the rugged hills of the Melghat region, comes under the Southern Dry Deciduous Forest category. Ain, Tectona grandis, Lendia, Tiwas, Aola, Dhavada and Kusum are the main trees found here. Apart from these, the area around Gugamal National Park is famous for the wide variety of plants of medicinal importance that grow around the region. Here total number of 90 various types of trees, 56 climbing trees, more than 300 different verity herbs and more than 750 species of plant still exists.

Fauna
Spread over 361 sq km areas, the Gugamal national park is famous for its wildlife diversity. Major wildlife found here include Bengal tiger, sloth bear, Ussuri dhole, Indian jackal, striped hyena, Indian panther, chausingha, sambar (considered the largest deer on the planet), gaur, barking deer, rattlesnake, macaque, flying Squirrels, chital (a subspecies of deer), nilgai, pythons, rhesus monkeys, wild boars and langurs form an integral part.
How To Reach

All means to reach here are accessible. The nearest airport is Nagpur which is around 220 km away and the nearest railway head is Badnera or Amravati at the distance of 110 km from national park. By road option is also available to drive your own vehicle or take buses which are frequently available from all major cities of Maharashtra.
