A stroboscope is an optical instrument used to observe and study the motion of fast-moving objects by creating the illusion of slow or steady motion. It works on the principle of persistence of vision, where our eyes retain an image for a while after it disappears. The working of a stroboscope involves emitting short, intense bursts of light at regular intervals. These light pulses are coordinated with the periodic motion of the observed object. When the flash rate of the stroboscope matches or is a multiple of the object's motion frequency, it appears to be moving in motion or in slow motion. The synergy between the motion of the object and the light pulses of the stroboscope tricks our brain into perceiving the motion as slowing down. This enables us to see and analyze fast-moving objects with greater clarity, revealing details that would otherwise be difficult to detect.
